The IC-F4029SDR radio provides digital signal transmission using digital modulation to both one and a group of users simultaneously. It is possible to exchange status messages, which significantly expands the scope of unlicensed radio equipment. The channel mode change option allows the IC-F4029SDR to be used in existing PMR 446 analog channels, providing a form of transition from analog to digital communications in a single device.
